Yogyakarta – The selection process for the leadership of the English Letters Study Program Student Association (HMPS) for the 2025/2026 period reached a crucial stage with a series of candidate interviews held on Wednesday (17/9) in room S.405, Faculty of Letters Building. The event provided a vital opportunity to assess the qualifications and readiness of future HMPS leaders.
The interview session, which began at 5:00 PM, was conducted in an orderly and conducive manner. Various stakeholders, including active student representatives, the HMPS board from the 2024/2025 period, and the KPU committee, as the organizers, were present to evaluate the candidates’ visions and missions.
The interviewers, comprising student representatives from the 2022 to 2025 batches, were dressed in batik shirts of various motifs, reflecting a spirit of unity and cultural identity. The candidates themselves appeared dignified in their university blazers.
A Structured and Rigorous Interview Process
The question-and-answer session was divided into several rounds. The candidates first faced mandatory questions from the Head and Deputy Head of the KPU. This was followed by questions from representatives of each student batch, split into two rounds. Each interviewer was given one minute to ask a question, while the candidates had five minutes to think and respond.
The questions were designed to assess not only the candidates’ understanding of their proposed work programs but also their problem-solving skills, the relevance of their vision and mission, and their abilities in teamwork and argumentation. As the candidates answered, the interviewers meticulously filled out evaluation forms provided by the committee, which included indicators such as self-confidence, argument accuracy, and leadership potential.

Hopes for a Visionary Leader
According to Sakti, the Head of the KPU, the event went smoothly and on schedule. “We all share the same hope: we want a visionary leader with engaging and successful programs.” He added, “With that in mind, we are striving to do our best in this election process.”
The Deputy Head of the 2024/2025 HMPS, Aurelia Pratiwi, expressed her appreciation for all those involved and hoped the candidates would prepare well for the next stages.
Meanwhile, Klodi, an interviewer from the 2023 batch, added, “There are still many factors to consider besides the discussions and Q&A in this room. Let’s follow their progress and support them through this process.”
This interview session is a crucial determinant in the HMPS leadership election. With the high level of dedication shown by all participants, it is hoped that the English Literature Study Program Student Association will gain a leader who can bring about positive change in the future. (AP)
