Nikuko is a hardworking woman with a big appetite and big heart. However, she always falls for the same trap. The men she dates always take advantage of her. Each time she breaks up with a guy, she ends up moving to a new place with her daughter, Kikuko.
In her last breakup she decided to stay in a seaside town, living on a boat with her daughter while working at a barbeque restaurant.
In this movie, we see the world through an adolescent girl’s eyes—how Nikuko struggles with school and friendships, her feelings towards her mother, and her interaction with the world around her.
Kikuko is not an ordinary girl; she is unique in her own way. Her uniqueness brings her to meet another not-so-ordinary boy, and only Kikuko can notice, see, and understand his special traits.
Friendship is the message that stuck with me. We must also appreciate our ordinary lives, be ourselves, and be strong no matter what.The animation style gives the audience the feeling of warmth and coziness. This is the perfect movie to watch with your family and friends.
