Collaboration Between Universities and the Community: Community Service Activity in Karangwaru

Yogyakarta (19/9) — An atmosphere of enthusiasm filled the Karang Waru Village Office in Yogyakarta on Friday (19/9) as a community service activity took place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The event brought together collaboration between students from several universities and local community leaders. It was attended by representatives from Amikom University Yogyakarta, students and lecturers from Sanata Dharma University, as well as several prominent figures from the Karangwaru community.

The discussion and mentoring session were opened by Rm. Ruky, S.J. In his remarks, Rm. Ruky expressed his hope that this activity would bring real benefits to the people of Karang Waru while also serving as a valuable learning experience for the students. “I hope this meeting marks the beginning of a strong collaboration and brings meaningful benefits to the Karangwaru community,” he said briefly before inviting participants to begin the discussion.

One of the participants, Novita, a student from Amikom University Yogyakarta, explained the concept and objectives of the research being conducted on the conditions of the Karangwaru community. “We are conducting research to understand the potentials and challenges present in Karangwaru. The aim is to ensure that the programs designed are accurate, targeted, and sustainable,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bandono, the Head of LPMK (Community Empowerment Institution) Karangwaru, appreciated the presence of the students. “We are pleased to have students and lecturers involved directly. This helps us view problems from new perspectives while working together to find solutions,” he said.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Mr. Deanto, one of the Karangwaru residents. He noted that this activity had a positive impact on the community. “This kind of activity makes people feel cared for. We hope the results of this research can help improve our welfare,” he remarked.

This event not only strengthened the synergy between universities and the local community but also opened opportunities for broader collaboration in the future, especially in the field of community empowerment and improving the quality of life of Karangwaru residents. (DK)
