EDS NETWORKING X SPARRING PARTNER WITH MEDS

Muhammadiyah English Debating Society (MEDS) held an event in collaboration with the English Debating Society (EDS) from the Faculty of English Letters, Universitas Sanata Dharma (13/09). The event aimed to build bonds and connections between the two clubs and to sharpen critical thinking through debate sparring by participating members of each club.

The activity took place from 12:00 until 17:30 in Room II/K.29 at Campus 1, Universitas Sanata Dharma. It began with warm speeches from both clubs’ MC representatives, Eric and Isdya, who also explained the activity rundown from the opening to the closing. The event was attended by students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, who were members of MEDS, as well as students from the English Letters Faculty of Universitas Sanata Dharma, who were members of EDS. The whole program ran smoothly and in a conducive atmosphere from start to finish.

The activity carried the theme “EDS Networking 2025: Clash of Thoughts and Perspectives Towards an Innovative, Competitive, and Collaborative Era.”

Leticia, the vice chairperson of the event, said, “This theme was chosen because, in this modern era, we need to think more critically. Through this theme, which also reflects the sparring format, the committee hopes that participants will become more critical thinkers, both for today and for the future.”

During the program, the highlight was the debate sparring, where representatives from EDS and MEDS discussed the given motions. The debates, conducted in both English and Indonesian, were an interesting sight as both teams presented arguments and defended their views.

The event concluded with a documentation session, during which all participants gathered for group photos. (MF)
