When The Stars Forget to Shine

I wake to days that feel the same,
The sky still blue, the ground still tame.
But something whispers past the air
A question hung I cannot bear.

What is this life, this breath, this name?
Are we just sparks inside a flame?
Why war and greed, why grief and fire,
Why build so much, then climb the pyre?

I walk through crowds yet feel alone,
Each heartbeat asking what’s unknown.
If all we are will turn to dust,
Then why the pain, the love, the trust?

And if the stars fall out of place,
If time forgets to show its face
Will silence stretch beyond the sound,
Or something else beneath the ground?

Do we dissolve, or rise, or sleep?
Do answers wait in oceans deep?
Or is it us who make the song
And when we're gone, it's simply... gone?
