“The Second Trial of Judas Iscariot” Performance Successfully Held, Offers a Different Vibe

Yogyakarta – The annual Play Performance by students of the English Letters Department at Sanata Dharma University once again captivated the audience. This year, they performed “The Second Trial of Judas Iscariot,” adapted from Stephen Adley Guirgus’ “The Last Day of Judas Iscariot,” at the Driyarkara Auditorium on Monday (08/09). The performance successfully delivered a profound theatrical experience with a non-musical concept, a departure from previous years’ shows.

With a “judgment” theme, the audience was actively involved as jurors who would decide the fate of the Judas Iscariot character at the end of the show. The performance, which ran from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, went smoothly and was enthusiastically received by visitors who had filled the area since 2:00 PM.

Una, the Head of the English Letters Student Association, expressed her pride in the success. “Our 11-month preparation was fully paid off tonight. I truly appreciate the entire team, from backstage to the actors; they were all amazing.”

Seanpaul Lapudooh, the director, said, “This is a satisfying peak! We started this not just as a committee, but we focused on one common goal, which was the success of the performance.”

Mr. Agathon, a companion to the performance and audience member, highlighted the different concept this year. He said, “Today’s performance is a bit unusual because the theater is non-musical. I hope this can be an alternative that inspires the next play teams to present something different again. Although many of the actors were beginners, the entire team fought their best.”

The performance concluded with a thunderous applause from the audience, followed by an introduction of all the committee members and actors, as well as a thank you for the appreciation shown. This show is a tangible proof of the students’ careful preparation and solid coordination, and it marks their success in presenting a different and memorable work of art.
